Brief History
The Department of Bengali started its journey since the inception of Surendranath College in the year 1884.The Department has the provision of Three Years Honours and General Course.The Faculty consists of FIVE UGC approved Full Time teachers. The deparment has very rich heritage. Professors like Asit Kumar Bandyopadhyay, Pramathanath Bishi, Ajit kumar Ghosh, Dilip Kumar Mitra, Sanatan Goswami, Arabindo Bhattacharya were the teachers of the Bengali Department. Their Sound knowledge, dedication, affection for the students made the Deparment glorious.Those teachers were very good critic in Bengali Language and Literature.’ History of Bengali Language’ written by Dr. Asit Kumar Bandopadhyay is his magnum opus. ‘History of Bengali Drama’ written by Dr. Ajit kumar ghosh is also a great contribution to the Bengali criticism. Renowned Novelist and Short Story writer Bibhuti Bhusahan Bandopadhyay was a student of this college as well as the alumni of Bengali Department. After passing out from the Department of Bengali of this college many students have achieved their goal and have been providing their valuable services to the Society as Professors, Teachers, Journalists and Political Personalities. The Bengali Department has successfully groomed the students and helped them to get settled in life.”চরৈবেতি”- Go Ahead is the ultimate motto of the Department of Bengali.

In the past we had visited many important and eminent places like ‘Jorasanko Thakurbari’,’ Bangio Sahitya Parishad’,’Rammohan Library’ etc but we had also plan to visit other eminent places like ‘Shantiniketan’Bolpur,’Kenduli’Birbhum etc. In the mean time,the Covid situation became alarming and lockdown was announced.So we were unable to execute our plan.Once the pandemic situation gets normal and offline classes commence in our state, We will definitely try to execute our plan.

Prativa Dhali
Prativa Dhali is from Bamanghata near Science City. She is the only daughter of her parents. Her father is a business man and she doesn’t have the financial crisis in her family. During the lock down period she has reported that she is not getting sufficient books for her study. She regularly follows the college website for study materials. As per her observations those materials are very helpful for the final exam. She doesn’t have any objection regarding the teachers of the Bengali Department and it has been observed by her that the teachers are very cooperative and helpful. She has been advised to practice regularly the question answer for best result in the final exam.
Anurima Das
Anurima stays at Bisharpara 24 Parganas North. Her father is a goldsmith and works at Bowbazar. During lock down period her family is facing some financial strain as her father has no regular job. She has been advised to contact the convenor of the Student Aid Fund Committee of our college so that the college can grant her freeship. Though Anurima has no formal training in recitation and drawing but she has enough interest in these subjects. She has got prizes in recitation and drawing. She has been advised to participate in the cultural programme of our college.
Sohini Manna
Sohini Manna stays at Dankuni, Hooghly. She belongs to a joint family. She has one sister who reads in class six. Her father is a business man and doesn’t have financial crisis in her family. She is very much satisfied with the teachers of the Department. Now she is facing problem to understand the subjects of SEC Paper. She has been advised to discuss the problem with her teachers so that they can help her to clear the doubts.
Keya Sadhukhan
Keya is from Naihati. She is the only daughter of her parents. Her father is an Auto Driver. During lock down period her family is facing some financial strain as their business is getting hampered for long time. She has been advised to contact the convenor of the Student Aid Fund Committee for some financial support. She likes linguistics, rhetoric and prosody. She has been advised to practice regularly the rhetoric and prosody for better results in the final exam.
Megha Das
Megha is from Subhasgram South 24 Parganas. Her father has Hardware business and doesn’t have financial crisis in her family. She doesn’t have any complaints regarding her teachers of the department. As per her observations all the teachers are very helpful and cooperative. She has been advised to write question answer regularly for better results in the final exam. She has also been advised to follow Bengali Dictionary regularly to overcome the problem of spelling mistake.

Pratik is from Janai.He is worried for the transportation to college once offline classes commence. Easier route of transportation was discussed with him.He has no financial issues.He loves Bengali and is satisfied with the academics.

Right now, they have no financial problems.She loves reading storybooks.She too isn’t able to buy books due to lockdown. She has been suggested to take help from PDFs and study materials. Sukanya is from Dattapukur 24PGS (N). She is the only daughter of her parents. Her father worked in an export company but now he is under treatment ‘cause of cereval attack . She doesn’t have the financial crisis in the family till now. She has no objection regarding her teachers in the department. Ankita is from Baruipur 24PGS (S). She is the only daughter of her parents. Her father worked in a private company . She doesn’t have the financial crisis in the family till now. She has no objection regarding her teachers in the department. She has been advised to write question answer regularly for her betterment and to approach the teachers to clear any kind of doubt regarding the curriculum of the University of Calcutta. NIDA NAZNI :-
Nida stays at Baguiati, 24PGS(S). She has two sisters . Both sisters are lawyer. Her father owns a restaurant. They doesn’t have financial crisis in the family. She is very much satisfied with the performance of the departmental teachers. She has been advised to follow the website of the college for the study materials.
