Surendranath College is a 138 years old educational institute of repute not only in West Bengal but also in Eastern India. Most of the teaching faculty members are efficient in their research accomplishment. In the last decade, our faculty members imitating research have built their significant achievement in their respective fields and have also exposed their work in renowned peer reviewed National and International journals. Since the 2006-2007 financial year till date the faculty members have secured Minor Research Projects and Major Research Projects funded by the UGC, DST-WB and other reputed funding agencies. All the research projects are successfully completed within the tenure. Significant research papers, book chapters, and books are being published on a regular basis in reputed peer reviewed and indexed National and International journals. The faculty members also presented their research outcomes in different national and international conferences. Currently, the total number of faculty members having Ph.D. degrees is 55. Some of the faculty members are also guiding students for their Ph.D. research work and at present they are 5 in numbers.. Few of the faculty members are pursuing their research for M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees as well. Surendranath College established a dedicated Central Research lab – Sir Surendranath Banerjee Advanced Research Centre, on the 5th floor of the Science Building. The aim of this centre is mainly to create a space and environment for further encouraging the faculty members and their research students to nurture their intellectual curiosity and their scientific and research pursuit.

To encourage and facilitate interdisciplinary research among the Faculty members and students.
To encourage students to handle sophisticated instruments and carry out experiments related to the ‘Skill-based’ module of the CBCS syllabus.
To extend infrastructure to the master degree interns for pursuing dissertations.
To run webinars, seminars, workshops, and hands-on training courses on interdisciplinary areas of research.
